Lords of the Organ series stages the greatest composers and their eternal works of this musical instrument
The programme this year is of two layers. At first we will travel to Weimar accompanied by Vivaldi and Bach, where the German master transported Italy from for fashion. Bach was almost a kid at that time, so he wanted to impress his employer and also noticed that Vivaldi was extremely popular with ladies, so that’s it – he thought. However, he did not expect what changes he himself would experience meanwhile. Getting acquainted with the music of Vivaldi the galant Italian manners and forms unnoticably got within his thorough German frames. Spirit met sensuality here. Bach always considered music an intellectual challenge, while Vivaldi was mostly concerned with his music to be charming. On one side there is strict composition and serving God, while on the other side enchanting melodies representing vivid sensibility. It is exciting to follow the art of Bach through his exciting works of art, to see how much Bach changed in as little as ten years. Berlioz and Gustav Host also have anniversary this year. It is revealed in the concert how the young composer gets disguised in a woman dress just to take revenge on his faithless sweatheart and whether he succeeds. Holst’s music flies us over the borders of the Earth as far as Jupiter, and you can even discover where the music of The Gladiator or Stars Wars comes from.
