Day of Eger castle

On 17th October 1552 the Turks gave up the siege of Eger Castle and left Eger.

To pay tribute to the victory 17th October is the Day of Eger Castle every year. This memorable day is celebrated with museum pedagogy- and crafts activities, traditional warrior fights, historic playhouses and professional programmes by Eger Castle.

10:30 a.m. Opening of the History of Egri Castle exhibition

12.00 Egri Castle and its Heroes - Interactive walk around the external sites of the fortification Tinódi Stars

13.00 The program of the Hungarian-English Bilingual School of Sebestyén Tinódi Balassi Primary School in Egri at the Palatoudvar

13.30 Folktale Day drawing competition results announcement in front of the Gothic Palace, then viewing the exhibition of the best works in the Dobó bastion

14.00 Guided tour in the Hall of Heroes with the knights of Egri Castle

14.30 Guided tour of the History of Egri Castle exhibition - with historian and museologist Ingrid Fejér

15.52 Weapons and costumes presentation, followed by a ceremonial fire in honor of the heroes of 1552 with the knights of the Egri Castle at the Palace Hall

All-day program from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.:

  • Weapons, clothing and lifestyle demonstration with the Egri Vitézlő School in the Ispotály basement Végvár combat demonstration and team fights with the Magyars Bajvívó
  • Betyártanya folk playground in the Lower Castle Yard
  • Adventure in the mine monitoring corridor -- Program starting every half hour from the Information point, with the purchase of a separate ticket
