We look forward to welcoming you to the Sándor Ziffer Gallery - the building of the former Orthodox synagogue - for the presentation of the biographical book of Gábor Székely, born in Eger and published by Magvető Kiadó, known for his public activities.
His memories go back to the 1840s, as he is a descendant of István Naftáli Schwarcz, a Jewish merchant from Sály, who was the first to receive permission to settle in Eger, and who, as one of the city's richest citizens, was also actively involved in the management of the Israelite community. As an authentic witness, his great-grandson recalls the successful and then tragic twists and turns of Jewish life in a small rural town, his post-war years, his religious upbringing, but his abandonment of his faith as a successful economist in the modern capital, and his return to his roots.
