New Fossils concert at the Valide Sultan bath ruin
New Fossils is a Hungarian jazz "supergroup" formed in Budapest in 2020, featuring active and acclaimed musicians from the Hungarian and international jazz and contemporary music scenes, including members from bands such as Mörk, Dresch Quartet, Mordái, and Laiho. Their music blends classic jazz instruments with modern playing techniques, electronics, and improvisation, creating a unique, urban, yet easily accessible sound that incorporates elements of jazz, pop, and alternative music. The band members are: Dániel Ferenc Szabó (drums), Marcell Gyányi (double bass), István Tóth Jr. (guitar), Damján Ocsovay (keyboards), and Dániel Varga (saxophone). In a short period of time, New Fossils has released three albums under their own label, Morotva Records. Their music combines melancholy, dreaminess, and impressions of contemporary urban life, with a strong emphasis on improvisation and cinematic soundscapes. The band is gaining increasing attention not only on the Hungarian but also on the international jazz scene, thanks to their fresh yet deeply rooted musical style.
