At the beginning of the 1960s, a typically Hungarian family from Angyalföld— the Fenyős — emigrates to America, only to “re-defect” and return home.
During his time abroad, young Ricsi soaks up everything America means to a teenager: chewing gum, Marlboro cigarettes, Hawaiian shirts, and above all, rock and roll. Inspired by these experiences and a passionate record-collecting radio technician, he decides to form a band. However, by the time he gets home, everything has changed: his old friends follow a new leader, and his childhood sweetheart is dating someone else…
The musical by Miklós Fenyő and István Tasnádi tells the story of a young band’s adventures as they dream of the American lifestyle while trying to break free from socialist reality. It captures the spirit, dreams, and struggles of the youth of that era, along with the social and political environment that shaped them. The show is filled with humor, romance, and excitement, featuring classic hits by Hungária such as Viva Rock and Roll, Csókkirály, and Made in Hungária.
Any resemblance between the characters or situations and real people is not coincidental.
