Felsőtárkány is situated 3 km from Eger at the foot of the Bükk mountains, a favourite venue for the people of Eger with its wonderful view and natural setting. Felsőtárkány can be approached by car, coach or on a convenient bicycle road separated from traffic.
The gem of Felsőtárkány is Szikla (Cliff) -spring and the lake. You have a possibility for a picknick, angling, having fun on the playground or walking on the forest trails, although the view of the lake surrounded by ancient trees is fascinating on its own.
On Vár-hill (Castle-hill) towering above the village there has always been a fortification, however, there have hardly any traces left of its Medieval castle. A 10-minute, short walk goes up to the cliff , the scenery is amazing.
The picturesque surroundings of Felsőtárkány can be visited on the narrow gauge forest train. At Varróház stop in the game park you can see deers and muflons. The end station of the forest train is Stimecz-house. Starting from here take a hike to Vöröskő-spring which is the most picturesque in spring time: the christal-clear water bursting up even two meters is a real spring-welcoming, happy attraction.
The schedule of the narrow-gauge train is not fix and depends on the weather.
