On October 17, 1552, after nearly a month of fierce fighting, the Ottoman army abandoned the siege and withdrew from the walls of Eger Castle.
It was a glorious victory for the Hungarian defenders. In memory of this triumph, we celebrate the Day of Eger Castle every year on this date.
