The history of the Gárdonyi Theatre dates back more than 140 years: the wooden theatre built on this site in 1884 was replaced by Eger’s first permanent theatre building in 1904.
Over the decades, the building has been renovated several times and acquired its current elegant appearance following its most recent major reconstruction. One of its distinctive features is the lighter-coloured section of the façade, which evokes the architectural style of the 1904 theatre, visually linking the past with the present.
