A whole-day trip

In Szilvásvárad can be found one of the nicest hiking venues of the Bükk mountains, or even of the country: Szalajka-valley. Here you can see Fátyol (Veil)-cascade and a lot of other attractions, eg. the cave of a prehistoric man in Istállóskő, the Forestry museum, the Open-air Forest Museum,a  bob track and an adventure park as well.

What adds, the valley can be explored on foot, on the narrow-gauge forest train, by bike (you can rent one on the spot) or even on a horse-driven carriage.

Off we go on the forest train

The narrow-gauge forest train starts from Fatelep station at the beginning of Szalajka valley and the destination is the magic Gloriette plateau. Hikers generally walk back from here down the valley at the end of which inns, or elegant restaurants wait for visitors. Yo must taste locally grown trout or game delicacies.

The cave of a prehistoric man 

You can walk up on a study trail to the  cave of a prehistoric man of Istállóskő which is a special place because finds of two Stone Age men were found here: one of a Neanderthal (Homo neanderthalensis), and one of  a Cro-Magnon man(Homo sapiens)! No wonder that archeologists managed to find other special finds as well, like 30-40 thousand year-old bones, tusks of a tundra deer, ancient bison, buffalo mammont and other stone-or bone tools and even finds the oldest flute of the world. A part of the finds can be seen in Orbán-house nearby.

Lipizzaner Stud

Another attraction of the village is Lipizzaner Stud and Carriage Exhibition belonging to it where you can get acquainted with horse-driven means of transport from simple carriages to splendid coaches. In the Stallion-yard traditional horses of Lipizzaner breed can be seen.

Open-air Forest Museum

The open-air museum paying tribute to the forest workers  can be visited free. Walking along the path you can get acquainted with the activities and related tools connected to forest, like: wood processing, charcoal firing, making potassium carbonate, iron ore processing and shingling. Besides you can scrutinise trees as well:  fossilised or lignitiesed trunks and also year-ring cronology.

Active Adventure Park

Adventure Forest of Szilvásvárad provides pleasant pastime for fans of active relaxation and children with its forest cableways of five difficulties, bungee trambulin, but also "gold wash" can be interesting for children.

Toboggan ride

From spring to autumn you can do toboggan riding in pleasant leafy environs. Special discount for groups.
