Bee-hive stones having been declared Hungaricum in 2016 are special rock formations of the Foot of the Bükk Mountains.

The original function of the nitches carved in the sides of the rock towers is mysticly uncertain up to now. Some assume they were used for burial purposes, others say they were connected to beekeeping, but even their role for storing idols in them cannot be excluded.

82 bee-hive stones can be found at the Foot of the Bükk Mountains at 41 sites and 479 nitches can be counted on the rock formations.
